Choosing a Sailboat Hatch Cover: Size & Fabric
Jul 27,2024 | FllickerMarine
Begin by identifying whether you need a fabric cover for an existing hatch or a replacement hatch assembly. FlickerMarine fabric hatch covers should be selected against the exterior of the hatch they will cover.
Identify the hatch and cover family
Record the hatch maker and model where available, and compare the selected cover family's shape and profile. Low-profile and Ocean-style cover listings have separate size references; a similar-looking code is not a fit confirmation.
Use the exterior measurements
Measure the existing hatch using the points shown in the cover's drawing. Compare horizontal and vertical dimensions, corner shape, side profile and any handle or fitting that affects the cover. Cover dimensions are not hull cutout dimensions.
Compare the selected option
Check the SKU code, color, dimension image and text table together. The F8022 listing provides eight model codes with their own dimensions. Use that table rather than inferring size from the numeric suffix.
Review construction and care
Check the fabric, closure and edge arrangement for the item. Follow the hatch maker's instructions as well as the cover care instructions; a fabric cover does not repair a damaged hatch seal or certify the hatch assembly as watertight.
