Outboard Motor Covers: Sun Exposure & Selection
May 22,2024 | FllickerMarine
When selecting an outboard cover for storage or exposure management, compare the exact engine and the intended use of the cover. Claims about a fabric's UV resistance should be checked separately from claims about the service life of an engine.
Identify the engine and cover type
Record the engine brand, complete model, horsepower and year, and compare the selected cover's compatibility table. Check whether the item is intended for storage, transport or a specifically documented running application.
Check coverage and fit
Compare cowling length, width and height using the selected product's measurement references. Inspect the opening and fastening positions against the engine photos. A brand name or broad horsepower range does not replace this fit check.
Review the stated fabric information
Check the fabric construction, lining, seams and care instructions for that item. If a particular UV, water-resistance or colorfastness rating is needed, request information that applies to the exact material and product. Do not infer protection of internal seals or prevention of engine failures from the presence of a cover.
Keep engine care separate
Follow the engine manufacturer's instructions for cleaning, inspection, maintenance and operation. A cover is an accessory and does not establish a service interval or replace those requirements.
Find the appropriate manual through the official Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki or Honda owner resources for your engine.
